No Samp victory over Inter in Garrone era

Sampdoria are without a win against Inter in 14 competitive fixtures, having drawn 7 and lost 7 since their 4-0 Serie A home victory over the Nerazzurri on 21 March 1999. The Blucerchiati are therefore winless against Inter since Riccardo Garrone became president of the club in 2002.

Silverware for Samp after cup meetings with Inter

Sampdoria have won two of their three two-legged Coppa Italia meetings with Inter. The Blucerchiati won their semi-final with Inter in 1987/88, winning 1-0 at home thanks to Roberto Mancini's goal after a 0-0 draw in Milan. Samp went on to win the competition that season, beating Torino over two legs in the final. Sampdoria beat Inter over two legs again in 1993/94, winning 1-0 in Genoa thanks to a Ruud Gullit goal after 1-1 draw in Milan (Fontolan, Lombardo the scorers). Samp then ousted Parma in the semi-finals and beat Ancona in the final. Inter beat Sampdoria 3-0 away, drawing 0-0 at home in 2006/07 to set up a final meeting with Roma, but lost 6-2 in the capital before a 2-1 home win in the return leg.

Samp at home in Coppa Italia: one defeat in last 9 games

Sampdoria have lost just one of their last 9 Coppa Italia home games (Samp 0-3 Inter on 24 January 2007), winning 6 and drawing 2 of the other 8. That 3-0 semi-final first leg defeat to Inter was the only time the Blucerchiati have failed to score in their last 10 cup fixtures at home. They have scored 17 in the other 9 matches.

Inter a hat-trick away from 100th away goal against Sampdori

Inter have scored 97 goals in 59 away matches against the Blucerchiati. Campatelli scored the first in the 53rd minute of a 5-1 win on 6 July 1947.

Nerazzurri on target in last 16 Coppa Italia away games...

Inter have scored in their last 16 away matches in Italy's domestic cup competition, notching a total of 31 goals since their 0-0 draw at Udinese on 13 January 2004. The above statistic does not include the 2007/08 final, which took place at a neutral ground.

...and one defeat in last 18

Inter have won 10, drawn 7 and lost just 1 of their last 18 away matches in the Coppa Italia. That sole defeat was a 6-2 reverse against Roma in the first leg of the 2006/07 final. This statistic excludes last season's one-legged final at a neutral ground.

GENOA - Inter face an uphill task in their bid to reach a fifth consecutive Tim Cup final after losing 3-0 to Sampdoria in the first leg of their semi-final tie at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Antonio Cassano fired a full-strength home side ahead inside the tenth minute of Wednesday's clash in the pouring rain, robbing Nelson Rivas and pacing into the box before lobbing the onrushing Toldo.

Samp were two goals to the good by the half hour when Raggi diverted Palombo's corner into the path of Giampaolo Pazzini who headed beyond Toldo from close range.

Pazzini put the Blucerchiati in total control just before the break, sliding into an open goal after Toldo's parry from Padalino.

Sampdoria were reduced to ten men 14 minutes into the second half with Gastaldello receiving his marching orders for a second booking.

Mourinho exploited the man advantage, throwing on Crespo for Maxwell, but was forced into a second substitution minutes later after Balotelli collided with a post.

Crespo forced saves from Castellazzi, first with a close-range shot and then with a flicked header, as Inter looked to reduce the gap ahead of next month's return leg.

Castellazzi made more reflex saves from Adriano and Crespo, denying Muntari in the final minutes as Sampdoria preserved their lead.
