Italian clubs okay with referee Plautz

Konrad Plautz referees the Nerazzurri for the first time in Matchday 6 at Ibrox. Italian sides have never lost in matches officiated by the Austrian ref, with 4 victories and 4 draws.

Inter v Scottsh clubs

Inter meet a Scottish club in Europe for the eleventh time. Of the previous ten clashes the Nerazzurri have won 5, drawn 2 and lost 3, including the 2-1 1966/67 European Cup final defeat to Celtic in Lisbon. In four away matches against Scottish sides Inter have collected 1 win, 1 draw and 2 defeats.

Rangers v Italian clubs

Glasgow Rangers face an Italian side in European cup competitions for the twentieth time, with 5 wins, 2 draws (both 1-1) and 12 defeats from the previous nineteen matches. Of the nine matches played in Scotland, the Gers have won 5, drawn 1 and lost 3.

Head-to-head

Of the 5 competitive matches between the two teams, Inter have won 3 and Rangers 2. Neither side has lost at home.

Rangers through if...

Rangers will qualify for the Champions League knock-out phase as Group H runners-up if they beat Inter. A draw at Ibrox would also be enough to see the Scottish champions through if the other Group H match between Artmedia and Porto finishes in a stalemate. If Porto win and Rangers draw, the Scots progress due to better head-to-head results against the Portuguese (3-2 in Glasgow, 1-1 in Porto). If Artmedia beat Porto and Rangers draw with Inter, the Gers will enter the UEFA Cup.

Adriano a brace away from Mazzola record

After his hat-trick against Artmedia in Matchday 5 Adriano has brought his Champions League tally for Inter to 14 goals. The Brazilian striker is now just two away from equalling Sandro Mazzola's all-time record of 16 Nerazzurri goals in Europe's top competition for clubs.

Inter: just one goal conceded in six games

Inter have let in just one goal in their last six competitive fixtures - Di Napoli's strike in the 71st minute of the Nerazzurri's 2-1 win at Messina on 27 November. Against Lazio, Parma and Ascoli in the Serie A, Artmedia in the Champions League and Parma in the Coppa Italia, Inter have kept clean sheets.

GLASGOW - Rangers held Inter 1-1 at Ibrox and qualify for the Champions League last sixteen for the first time in their history as Artmedia and Porto played out a goalless draw in Tuesday evening's other Group H Matchday 6 match. The Nerazzurri, of course, were already through to the knock-out phase after clinching the group top spot in Matchday 5.

Both goals came in the first half, Adriano heading Inter in front before Lovenkrands equalised for Rangers with a solo effort.

After soaking up some early pressure from the Scots, Inter came into the game and took the upper hand on the half-hour mark when Adriano headed home a Sinisa Mihajlovic corner to notch his eleventh in all competitions this season and silence the home fans.

Rangers' reply came eight minutes later when Lovenkrands ran on to an intelligent through ball by Buffel, outpaced Mihajlovic during his run on goal then beat Toldo with a shot from eleven yards to give the atmosphere an immediate lift.

Inter lost Marcos Materazzi and Andreolli to injury as Mancini's men finished the match in ten men when Cristiano Zanetti was sent off for a second yellow card three minutes from full time.
