Inter's 290-minute invincibility at home

The Nerazzurri haven't let in a goal at home since Lucarelli's 70th-minute header in Inter 4-1 Livorno on 25 October 2006. Including the remaining 20 minutes of that game plus the victories over Ascoli (2-0, Serie A), Reggina (1-0, Serie A) and Sporting Lisbon (1-0, Champions League), Inter haven't conceded a home goal for 290 minutes of competitive football.

Inter always through after 1-0 win in cup first legs

For the sixth time in their history Inter play a Coppa Italia return leg at home after a 1-0 win from the first leg. The Nerazzurri have qualified for the successive round on each of the previous five occasions: Inter 1-0 Empoli in 1984/85, Inter 2-1 Monza in 1990/91, Inter 3-2 Foggia in 1997/98, Inter 3-0 Atalanta in 2004/05 and Inter 0-0 Parma in 2005/06.

Messina's 11-game conceding streak

The Sicilians have conceded at least one goal in each of their last eleven competitive matches, letting in a total of 20 goals. Messina's last match without conceding was the 2-0 home victory over Reggina on 20 September 2006.

Just one Messina win in last 16 away games

Messina's 1-0 Coppa Italia victory at Tuscan side Sansovino on 19 August 2006 is the Sicily outfit's only victory in their last 16 away matches. The Giallorossi have collected 4 draws and 11 defeats from the other 15 games. Messina's win at Sansovino is also their only clean sheet in their last 18 away games. They have let in at least once in each of the other 17 matches, conceding a total of 35 goals.

Messina chasing new club record in Coppa

With three wins and one draw away from home, Messina have put together a four-match unbeaten run in Coppa Italia matches on the road, equalling the club's record of four away cup games without defeat between 2001 and 2002.

Messina & 1-0 defeats from cup first legs

For the second time in their history Messina go into a Coppa Italia return leg after a 1-0 defeat in the first leg. In 2004/05 the Sicilians lost 1-0 at home to Siena before drawing the return leg 1-1 in Tuscany.

MILAN - Argentine duo Nicolas Burdisso and Mariano Gonzalez and Italy U21 defender Marco Andreolli opened their scoring accounts for Inter as the Nerazzurri eased past Messina and into the quarter-finals of the Tim Cup.

The Coppa Italia holders scored twice in either half to beat the Sicilian outfit 4-0 and complete a 5-0 aggregate victory.

Burdisso opened the scoring on 27 minutes with a powerful header past Caglioni from a Figo right-wing corner.

Mariano Gonzalez put Inter in total control ten minutes later, heading in at the back post after a counter-attack down the left involving Maxwell and Solari.

Inter's third came sixteen minutes into the second half after a bit of pinball in the Messina box. Cambiasso headed a Figo cross into the middle of the area where Burdisso headed on target. Coppola's headed clearance on the line fell to Andreolli who nodded in from a yard out.

Burdisso wrapped up the Nerazzurri's tenth consecutive victory with yet another headed goal on 61 minutes, from another Luis Figo cross.

Inter will face either Empoli or Genoa in the two-legged quarter-final.
