Inter v PSV Eindhoven

The two teams meet for the first time in a competitive fixture.

Cruz, Crespo & UCL goals for Inter

Julio Cruz and Hernan Crespo have each scored 10 Champions League goals for Inter. They are fourth in the all-time list of Nerazzurri scorers in the competition, along with Obafemi Martins. The two Argentines are a goal away from the top three of Jair (11 goals), Adriano (16) and Sandro Mazzola (16).

The ref: Kyros Vassaras

Born on 1 February 1966, Kyros Vassaras has been an international referee since 1998. The Greek official has refereed the Nerazzurri on two previous occasions: Anderlecht 1-3 Inter (UCL MD2 on 29 September 2004) and Inter 1-0 Rangers (UCL MD2 on 28 September 2005). In total, he has taken charge of 15 fixtures involving Italian clubs, who have registered 8 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats. Vassaras referees a match between PSV Eindhoven and an Italian team for the third time after PSV 2-1 Parma (2000/01 UEFA Cup) and AC Milan 2-0 PSV (2004/05 Champions League).

No PSV goal in Italy for 304 competitive minutes

Kezman's 56th-minute goal in PSV's 2-1 defeat at Lazio in the Champions League on 16 October 2001 was the last time the Dutch side scored on Italian soil. PSV are without a goal in away matches against Italian teams for 304 competitive minutes - the remaining 34 minutes of the above mentioned Lazio clash plus the entire matches against Perugia (0-0, 2003/04 UEFA Cup) and AC Milan (2-0, 2004/05 Champions League; 0-0, 2005/06 Champions League).

Figo poised for milestone appearance

If he plays against PSV Eindhoven in Matchday 2, Luis Figo will complete a century of appearances for the Nerazzurri. The Portuguese midfielder, who made his Inter debut in the 3-0 home win over Treviso on the opening day of the 2005/06 Serie A season, has played 71 times in the Italian top flight, 10 in the Coppa Italia, 16 in European competitions and twice in the Italian Super Cup.

MILAN - In-form striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored his fourth brace of the season to put Inter back on track in Champions League Group G.

The Swedish striker gave himself an early 26th birthday present, scoring his eighth and ninth of the season to put the Nerazzurri in total control by the break.

Cristian Chivu was dismissed for a second yellow 20 minutes into the second half and David Suazo was shown a straight red for an incident after the final whistle.

Tuesday's 2-0 victory moves Inter level with PSV. Both sides trail Fenerbahçe, who held CSKA Moscow 2-2, by a single point.

PSV produced the first chance of the game on 12 minutes when Perez tested Julio Cesar with an angled drive from inside the area.

Further first-half chances for the Dutch side were few and far between as Chivu, back in action after a three-week lay-off, and Samuel erected a dam at the back.

Inter edged in front in the 15th minute, Ibrahimovic sending Gomes the wrong way from the spot after being pulled off the ball by Kronkamp.

Hernan Crespo just failed to connect with Solari's fast cross from the left for what would have been a certain second goal on 25 minutes.

It was 'Ibracadabra' again in the 31st. Zanetti stormed down the right and served Figo who crossed to the far post where the Swedish forward sent a looping header from the acutest of angles beyond Gomes.

With a two-goal deficit to overturn the visitors upped their game after the interval, Addo's flicked header from Perez' right-wing cross their closest chance of a reply.

But Ronald Koeman's team failed to capitalise after Chivu was red-carded for a second bookable offence.

Roberto Mancini threw on holding midfielder Francesco Bolzoni (who made his first-team debut in last season's Tim Cup semi-final return against Sampdoria) for Santiago Solari and switched Cambiasso to a defensive role.

Inter diligently defended their advantage and could have grabbed a third through substitute Suazo who forced a difficult save from Gomes with a low 25-yard drive before firing narrowly wide from close range.

The Honduran striker soured his display after the final whistle when he received his marching orders after an incident with PSV's Salcido.

Both Suazo and Chivu will automatically miss Inter's Matchday 3 trip CSKA Moscow.
