Inter v Roma, the most common final in the history of the Coppa

From 1922 to the present day, Inter v Roma is the most common final in the history of the Coppa Italia. The two teams have faced each other 5 times in the trophy match of the competition. In 2004/05 the title went to Inter, who won 2-0 in Rome and then 1-0 at the San Siro in the return leg. In 2005/06 the Nerazzurri repeated with a 1-1 draw at the Stadio Olimpico in the first leg and a 3-1 win in Milan. 2006/07 brought revenge for the Giallorossi with a 6-2 victory in the first leg followed by a painless 1-2 loss at the Meazza in the return. Roma triumphed again in 2007/08 (2-1 in the single match in Rome), and in 2009/10 the title went to Inter (1-0 in the single match, again in Rome).

Inter v Roma fixture in 8 out of last 9 tournaments

In the last 9 editions of the Coppa Italia, Inter and Roma have met 8 times in the competition. Only in the 2011/12 season did the Nerazzurri and Giallorossi fail to face each other.

The team that advances takes the cup

Inter have not lost a home match of the Coppa Italia since 12 December 2002 when Bari came away as 2-1 winners in the round of 16. Since then the home record for the Nerazzurri in the following 29 games of the competition is 23 wins and 6 draws.

Inter held scoreless at home only once in last 20 competitive games

Inter have failed to score only one time in their last 20 home matches. This occurred last 10 March in the Serie A in a 0-1 home loss to Bologna. In the remaining 19 challenges the Nerazzurri have found the net a total of 39 times.

Roma without a 4-victory run since 2003

Roma are coming off of 3 consecutive wins in the Coppa Italia: 3-0 at home to Atalanta, 1-0 away to Fiorentina (after extra time) and 2-1 at home to Inter. The last match the Giallorossi failed to win in the competition took place on 24 January 2012 with a 0-3 loss away to Juventus. Should the Giallorossi win today and make it 4 victories in a row, it would be necessary to go back to the period of January to April 2003 to find a similar winning streak, when they surpassed Vicenza (2-1 away and 6-3 at home) and Lazio (2-1 away and 1-0 at home).

Andreazzoli: 100 professional appearances as a coach

Aurelio Andreazzoli today celebrates his 100th match as a coach in his professional career. The current 99 appearances – collected at the helm of Massese, Tempio, Alessandria and Roma – are divided as follows: 9 in the Serie A, 45 in C-1, 31 in C-2, 8 in the Coppa Italia and 6 in other competitions. Andreazzoli’s official debut as a professional coach goes back to 21 August 1994: Massese 0-0 Livorno in the Serie C Coppa Italia. His record in these 99 games is 26 wins, 32 draws and 41 defeats.

Ex-Roma coach Stramaccioni winless against former team

Andrea Stramaccioni has faced Roma 3 times and has yet to win, with a record of 1 draw and 2 losses. All of these matches saw their share of goals, with 3 scored by Inter and 6 by Roma. Stramaccioni is a former Roma coach, where he spent time at their youth academy from 2005/06 to 2010/11. During this period he won 1 league title with the Giovanissimi Professionisti (Roma, 2006/07), 1 league title with the Allievi Nazionali (Roma, 2009/10) and 1 Città di Arco Allievi trophy (Roma, 2009/10).

MILAN – Inter were beaten 2-3 at the Meazza by Roma in tonight's semi-final return leg, with the Giallorossi securing their place in the Coppa Italia final having won the first leg 2-1.

Inter took the lead in the 22nd minute through Jonathan, drafted into the starting line-up at the last minute after Cambiasso was forced to withdraw. Rocchi and Jonathan combined with a delightful one-two before the Brazilian completed the move by drilling firmly into the far corner. On the stroke of half time, Handanovic pulled off a blinding save to deny Florenzi.

Roma got themselves level ten minutes after the restart when Lamela threaded a pass through for Destro and the striker dinked it delicately over Handanovic. The visitors added a second in the 69th minute. De Rossi picked out Balzaretti on the left of the box and the full-back's first-time ball found Destro, who was handed the easy task of side-footing home from yards out. Five minutes later, the Giallorossi made it three. Torosidis beat substitute Forte and fired a wicked trajectory past Handanovic. Inter reduced the deficit with ten minutes remaining as Alvarez capped an impressive display with fine solo goal: cutting inside from the right, he drifted past Balzaretti and Castan before firing into the bottom corner of Stekelenburg's goal.

Inter v Roma finished 2-3 and it was the Giallorossi who took their place in the final. At the end of the game the team thanked the fans for their support.
