Nerazzurri for 4 seasons, star of the record Scudetto win, scorer of World Cup-winning Germany goal: Inter remembers the German who has passed away at the age of 63

Andreas Brehme has passed away: born in Hamburg in 1960, he is a legend of German football history thanks to his World Cup-winning goal in 1990. Winner: he came to Inter in 1988 from Bayern Munich and won one Scudetto, one UEFA Cup, and one Supercoppa Italiana with the Nerazzurri. He picked up many trophies over his career: as well as with the German National team, Bayern Munich, and Kaiserslautern.

With him goes a piece of us. A part of our youth, of those sayings that have entered our imaginations, our history. Record-breaking Inter, Inter's Germans. These are ideas that we always hark back to, and we will continue to do so to remember an incredible footballing season with Trapattoni, Zenga, Bergomi, Ferri, our German players, the Scudetto, the UEFA Cup. Andreas Brehme, Andy to all. It is truly difficult to simply write about his memory, now that he is no longer with us. Because his connection to Inter, to the Nerazzurri world, the fans, was so solid and everyday that it makes this goodbye much harder. Only a few weeks ago, he was at San Siro to watch his beloved Inter up close, speaking to the Club's official channels, being embraced by the public that has always adored him.

And then, every single day, on his social media, he would share memories, pieces of an amazing career, fragments of the Nerazzurri: every day, to reaffirm his connection to Inter.

He left a mark on our history. The same that he carved out on the left flank. Power and naturalness, class and versatility. There is no hesitation in naming him as one of the best players in Nerazzurri history: a talented defender, determined, and decisive.

"I was not born with this talent, I worked hard to obtain it". Andy had just finished writing 'Sure-footed', a book on his career. The title is also a manifesto of his incredible skill: being just as good with his right foot as his left. This extraordinary ability allowed him to score the late penalty in the Italia 90 final with his right foot to seal the win for Germany against Argentina.

This historic goal was scored at the Olimpico in Roma: a left-footed fullback who scored, with his right foot, with not long until the 90th minute of a World Cup final, to bring the trophy home for his nation. Something huge, gigantic. For the Inter fans, however, they knew him well. Brehme became a legend. For his runs, his penalties, his free-kicks, his corners. Franz Beckenbauer always stressed discipline and strength in duels.

We still see him around, Andy: running on the pitch at San Siro, holding the huge Scudetto trophy in one hand presented on the Meazza grass. The win was sealed, a few weeks before, by a free-kick from his friend Lothar. They both came from Bayern Munich, winning together at Inter and with Germany. And the next year, with the arrival of Klinsmann, they made up the most famous German trio in the history of Italian football.

When he had to create the strongest side from his previous teammates, Andreas didn't hesitate to choose 5 Nerazzurri players: Zenga, Bergomi, Ferri, Matthaus and Rummenigge. Because that bond between the most legendary two-footed player in history and our Club, our history, will never break. Goodbye Andy, a true Interista.
