Juve v Inter in Turin

Since the Serie A became a one-division championship there have been 87 meetings between Juventus and Inter in Turin. Of those, the Bianconeri have won 58 (last one 3-0 in 2002/03 Serie A). There have been 15 draws (last one 2-2 in 2003/04 Coppa Italia) and 14 Nerazzurri wins (last one 1-0 in 2004/05 Serie A). Inter are unbeaten in their last four visits to Turin, with 3 wins and a draw

Mancini nears 100th win as coach

In the 12 meetings between the two coaches, Fabio Capello has won 5, drawn 4 and lost 3. Mancini is unbeaten in Turin since taking over as Inter coach in the summer of 2004, and after the midweek Champions League victory over Rangers is now one match away from a century of wins since becoming a coach. With Fiorentina, Lazio and Inter he has won 61 matches in the Serie A, 17 in the Coppa Italia, 20 in European competitions and 1 in the Italian Super Cup. Mancini's first victory was Fiorentina's 3-1 win at home to Roma in the Serie A on 9 April 2001, when the Giallorossi were coached by current Juve boss Fabio Capello.

The ref: Gianluca Paparesta

Gianluca Paparesta (Bari section) will take charge of Sunday evening's 'derby d'Italia'. Paparesta has already refereed the Nerazzurri once this season, and seventeen times in total, with 6 Inter victories, 4 draws and 7 defeats, the last of which was the 3-2 loss in Palermo on 10 September. At the Delle Alpi Paparesta will be assisted by Ivaldi and Ricci (linesmen) and by fourth official Bertini.

Inter unbeaten for 472 minutes

Inter haven't let in a goal since Makinwa's effort in the 68th minute of Palermo's 3-2 Serie A Week 2 victory on 10 September. The Nerazzurri net has therefore remained unperforated for 472 minutes (remaining 22 minutes of Barbera match plus entire games against Artmedia and Rangers in Champions League, and Lecce, ChievoVerona and Fiorentina in Serie A).

Adriano, Cruz & goals against Juve

Of Adriano's 77 goals since arriving in Italy, 6 have been scored against the Bianconeri: 1 in Juventus-Fiorentina (Serie A 2001/02); 1 in Juventus-Parma (Serie A 2002/03); 2 in Juventus-Inter (Coppa Italia 2003/04), 1 in Inter-Juventus (Coppa Italia 2003/04); and 1 in Inter- Juventus (Serie A 2004/05). Julio Cruz also likes scoring against Juve, with 4 goals against the Bianconeri, Lecce and Parma out of 54 Italian goals.

Oba one hundred

If he plays against Juventus Obafemi Martins will complete a century of appearances for Inter – no mean feat for the Nigeria forward, who turns 21 next month. Martins has played 63 times in the Serie A, twice in the Serie C1, 11 in the Coppa Italia, 24 in European Cup competitions and once in the Italian Super Cup. He has scored 39 goals. He made his debut in the Coppa Italia 1-0 win at Bari on 5 December 2002.

Mancini's winning bench

Inter have the second-best Serie A attack after five matches with ten goals scored. Julio Cruz has come off the bench to score three of those ten goals. Empoli are the other side to have scored three goals with subs so far this season.

Juve chasing record

Juventus are the only team in the 'three points for a win' era (since 1994/95 season) to have collected maximum points from their first five league matches. The Bianconeri are now chasing the absolute record of consecutive victories in the one-division championship, set by the Turin-based side in 1930/31 and equalled in 1985/86.

Juve & substitutions

Juventus are one of the two teams contesting the 2005/06 Serie A championship to have used the fewest number of substitutes after the first five matches. In 450 minutes of football Juve and Udinese have made 12 substitutions out of a possible 15.

Inter tough nut to crack for Juventus

Juventus have drawn just one of their last 16 competitive matches, with 13 wins and 2 defeats. That draw was a 2-2 stalemate with Livorno on 22 May 2005 when the Bianconeri clinched the title. The two defeats were both at the hands of Inter, who won 1-0 in Turin in the Serie A on 20 April and in the Italian Super Cup on 20 August. Of their last 16 matches Juventus have failed to score in these two defeats only.

TURIN - Juventus beat Inter 2-0 at the Delle Alpi on Sunday evening to open up a six-point gap at the top of the Serie A table. The Nerazzurri slip to fourth place behind AC Milan and Fiorentina after their second defeat of the season.

Both Bianconeri goals came from set pieces, with David Trezeguet opening the scoring on 22 minutes with header into the far corner after Julio Cesar parried a powerful free kick by Ibrahimovic.

Luis Figo had a free kick punched clear by Abbiati before Czech midfielder Pavel Nedved doubled for Juventus with a curling free kick that went in at the left post. Buffon's deputy was quick off his line to twice deny Obafemi Martins and preserve the lead going into the break.

The Nigerian headed a whisker wide of the far post from Figo's corner minutes into a Nerazzurri dominated second half, during which Mancini introduced both Recoba and Cruz.

With all four strikers on the pitch Inter's attacking options multiplied but Mancini's men were kept out by a compact Bianconeri defence and an in-form Abbiati, who parried a low shot by Martins at full stretch then saved Cruz's' header from the resulting corner to stop Inter from scoring for the first time since last season's 0-0 draw with Reggina.
