45' Half time in sunny Palermo. 1-0 to the hosts.
44' A corner now as Bovo fails to make a clean clearance from Maicon's right-wing cross.
42' Cristian Chivu has a go this time. The Romanian aims for the top left corner but it sails high and wide.
41' Another free kick in an interesting position for Inter after a Bovo foul on Milito.
40' Eto'o floats into the Palermo area from the left wing, but there's no team-mate there and Bovo, undisturbed, makes a headed clearance.
38' Stankovic takes the ball wide of Migliaccio with a quick turn of pace, before lashing over from 25 yards. Nice try.
36' Stankovic's curling free kick is comfortably saved by Sirigu.
35' Free kick to us in a central position just outside the Palermo area after a foul by Munoz on Milito. Wesley's not playing, but we still have plenty of options.
32' Cracking game at the Renzo Barbera. Inter come back at the Rosanero and Milito sees his shot saved by the onrushing Sirigu.
31' Palermo win a right-wing corner. The cross arrives over to Balzaretti on the far side and the Italian full-back crashes a low shot on target. It's blocked by the Inter defence.
30' Inter close to a leveller through Eto'o, but Palermo clear and launch another swift counter-attack.
28' GOAL. Ilicic runs on goal and passes left to Pastore who is in loads of space. The Argentine toe pokes at Julio Cesar, who parries, but Ilicic is straight on to the loose ball and the Slovenian midfielder fires home. PALERMO 1-0 INTER.
27' Ilicic has a dig from 20 yards. Wide.
26' Corner to the hosts as Cassani's cross spins off Chivu. Nothing comes of it as Pastore's near-post effort is wide.
23' Maicon gets into a shooting position just outside the box, but he drags his effort wide.
22' A scare for Palermo as Milito whips in a dangerous cross for Eto'o. The Inter number nine just fails to connect.
19' Match ref Romeo from Verona strangely blows for a foul by Samuel when the Argentine actually won the ball.
16' Brilliant tackle by Walter Samuel on Pastore as Palermo launch a counter-attack after clearing an Inter corner.
13' Inter close through Dejan Stankovic, moments after Munoz blocks a Pandev shot. The Serbian severely tests Sirigu with a wicked curling shot from distance that hits the crossbar and bounces off the Palermo keeper before he can save.
12' Back at the other end Eto'o has a cross for Stankovic cleared in the six-yard box after some nice approach play by Pandev and Cambiasso.
11' Palermo counter-attack and Pastore looks for Hernandez with a long low pass. Zanetti intercepts and passes back to JC.
10' Free kick to Inter on the right as Pandev is shoved over by Balzaretti. Maicon's cross is cleared by Bacinovic.
8' Pandev picks out Eto'o in space and the Cameroonian unleashes a long-range shot from 25 yards. High and wide.
7' Maicon pounces on a loose ball and gets into the box before firing low at Sirigu.
6' The Nerazzurri pile forward on the break after a bit of pinball on the edge of our area. Stankovic sweeps wide to Milito who sees his arrowed shot deflected out for a corner.
4' Inter win a free kick in the Palermo third. Maicon crosses into the six-yard box, where Balzaretti plays back to his keeper.
2' An Argentina-Uruguay combination as Pastore tries a one-two with Hernandez, but the former overhits his return pass to the latter and Julio Cesar gathers.
1' Good news for the Nerazzurri. Goran Pandev is fit to play and takes his place on the right wing with Samuel Eto'o on the left and Dejan Stankovic filling Wesley Sneijder's shoes in the middle - all three in support of lone front man Diego Milito.
Cristian Chivu returns at left-back, meaning captain Javier Zanetti slots in alongside Esteban Cambiasso in defensive midfield with MacDonald Mariga dropping to the bench. No change then in the system to face Palermo: 4-2-3-1.
1' Off we go at the Renzo Barbera. Inter kick off. FORZA NERAZZURRI!!!
1' There will also be a minute's applause to remember Alessandro Romani, the Italian solider killed in Afghanistan yesterday.
1' On behalf of Inter, Javier Zanetti will lay some flowers beneath the away fans sector before kick-off this afternoon, in memory of Norman Zarcone, a friend of Palermo and great football fan.
1' It won't be easy away to the Rosanero. And Rafa Benitez said so yesterday in his pre-match presser, pointing out that intensity is key. Unione Sportiva Città di Palermo (to give their full name) are unbeaten at home since the start of March 2009, when they were trounced 4-0 by their island rivals Catania.
Here are a few interesting stats though: we haven't lost here since 2005, and in 23 away games against Palermo since 1933 we have won 8, drawn 11 and lost just 4.
1' Here we go with the lineups:
Palermo: 46 Sirigu; 16 Cassani, 6 Muñoz, 5 Bovo, 42 Balzaretti; 23 Nocerino, 21 Bacinovic, 8 Migliaccio; 27 Pastore, 72 Ilicic; 9 Hernandez.
Subs: Benussi, Kasami, Liverani, Garcia, Maccarone, Darmian, Pinilla.
Inter: 1 Julio Cesar; 13 Maicon, 6 Lucio, 25 Samuel, 26 Chivu; 4 Zanetti, 19 Cambiasso; 27 Pandev, 5 Stankovic, 9 Eto'o; 22 Milito.
Subs: Castellazzi, Cordoba, Muntari, Mariga, Materazzi, Coutinho, Santon.

Benitez v Palermo/Rossi

Rafael Benitez faces Palermo and their coach Delio Rossi for the first time in his career.

Rossi v Inter

Delio Rossi encounters Inter for the 21st time after 1 victory (Lecce 2-1 Inter in Serie A on 2 May 2004), 5 draws and 14 defeats.

Palermo unbeaten in last 29 home games

With 21 wins and 8 draws since their 4-0 defeat against Sicily rivals Catania on 1 March 2009, Palermo have gone 29 games without a home loss at the Stadio Renzo Barbera.

Rosanero chasing third consecutive clean sheet

Palermo haven't conceded a single goal in their last two home games, winning 3-0 against Maribor in the Europa League qualifying round and drawing 0-0 with Cagliari in Serie A. The last player to score against the Rosanero was Sampdoria's Giampaolo Pazzini in last May's 1-1 draw.

Balzaretti on milestone appearance

If he plays against Inter, Federico Balzaretti will make his 300th appearance in professional football. Besides Palermo, the Italian full-back has also played for Varese, Siena, Torino, Juventus and Fiorentina. He has played 124 times in Serie A, 130 times in Serie B and 45 times in Serie C1. Balzaretti made his professional debut in Varese 1-2 Siena (Serie C1) on 19 September 1999.

Delio Rossi one away from 200th defeat

Palermo's Europa League loss at Sparta Prague on Thursday was the 199th defeat of Delio Rossi's coaching career. His first defeat came on 22 August 1993 when Salernitana lost 2-1 at home to Udinese in the Coppa Italia. Besides those 199 defeats, Delio Rossi has registered 228 wins and 190 draws in 617 games.

Inter: three consecutive clean sheets on Serie A travels

The last player to score at home to Inter in Serie A was Per Kroldrup in Fiorentina 2-2 Inter on 10 April 2010. The Nerazzurri have since played three away games in the Italian top flight, winning 2-0 at Lazio, 1-0 at Siena, and drawing 0-0 at Bologna.

Suazo set for 300th appearance in Italian football

David Suazo's next game will be his 300th in Italian football after 152 appearances in Serie A and 147 in Serie B. The Honduran forward made his Italian football debut in Cagliari 1-1 Venezia in Serie A on 26 September 1999. Besides Inter, he has also played for Cagliari and Genoa.

Mancini and goals against Palermo

Amantino Mancini, who has scored 60 goals for Italian clubs, counts Palermo among his three favourite targets with five goals in games against the Rosanero. The other two teams are Inter and Parma.

PALERMO - Samuel Eto'o scored his fifth and sixth of the season as Inter battled from a goal down to end Palermo's long unbeaten home run.

The Rosanero edged in front on 28 minutes through Ilicic and continued to pose a threat on the counter-attack, but Benitez's men gradually seized control and in-form Eto'o did the damage with two precise finishes in eight second-half minutes.

Sunday's 2-1 win puts Inter on top of the Serie A table with newly promoted Cesena. Both teams have seven points after three rounds of games.

There was no Wesley Sneijder for the trip to Sicily and there was no change in formation either as Benitez stuck with a 4-2-3-1.

Stankovic filled the playmaker role and Pandev was among the starters after shrugging off a knee problem. Chivu returned at left-back with Zanetti reverting to defensive midfield and Mariga dropping to the bench.

It was all Inter in the early stages and Stankovic went close to what would have been a stunning opener, his fierce curling shot from distance crashing against the crossbar and bouncing off.

After some sustained counter-attacking initiative, Palermo took the lead on 28 minutes. Slovenian midfielder Ilicic raced on goal and served the unmarked Pastore who saw his poked shot parried away by Julio Cesar. Ilicic pounced on the loose ball and fired home.

Stankovic just failed to divert home Eto'o's inviting cross, and Sirigu narrowed the angle to deny Milito as the Nerazzurri produced several decent chances before half time.

Palermo made a fast start to the second half, with Hernandez and Bacinovic both forcing Julio Cesar into difficult saves.

Milito could have levelled in the 54th minute but was thwarted by Sirigu after playing a one-two with Stankovic, and should have equalised four minutes later, firing wide from close range after Pandev's stroked cross from the left.

The Prince made amends soon after, laying on the pass for Eto'o's first goal on 62 minutes. The Cameroonian received from his strike partner in the area and shook off Munoz before arrowing a low shot into the far corner.

Eto'o continued his fine start to the season in the 70th minute after some brilliant approach play by Stankovic. The Serbian midfielder combined neatly with Maicon to prise open the Palermo defence before passing short to Eto'o who fired in to make it six goals in as many games.

Pandev could have increased Inter's lead in the closing stages after slipping past Bovo and Munoz in the box, but saw his shot fly wide.
