Stramaccioni v Ferrara, round 1

This is the first meeting between coaches Andrea Stramaccioni and Ciro Ferrara.

Ferrara sacked after losing to Inter

On the two previous occasions when Ciro Ferrara has faced Inter, there has been one victory apiece, the home side winning 2-1 in both cases. Ciro Ferrara was given the sack after the second of those meetings: Inter 2-1 Juventus, a Coppa Italia tie on 28 January 2010.

Sampdoria winless in Milan since 1996

Sampdoria haven't beaten Inter in San Siro since 15 December 1996, when they came away as 3-4 winners. In the 12 matches played at the Meazza since then, Samp have lost 7 and drawn 5.

Inter aiming for 8 on the bounce

Inter have won their last seven games in Serie A, against ChievoVerona (0-2 away), Fiorentina (2-1 at home), AC Milan (0-1 away), Catania (2-0 at home) and Bologna (1-3 away), and in the Europa League, against Neftçi (1-3 away) and Partizan Belgrade (1-0 at home). The last time the Nerazzurri failed to win was on 23 September, a 0-2 home defeat to Siena in Serie A.

230-minute San Siro shutout

The Nerazzurri haven't conceded at home since 30 September when they beat Fiorentina 2-1 in Serie A. Since Romulo's 40th-minute strike, Inter have gone 230 minutes with letting in a goal: the 50 remaining minutes of that game plus the victories over Catania (2-0, Serie A) and Partizan Belgrade (1-0, Europa League).

Inter and Samp: goals throughout the team

Inter have had nine different players on the score sheet this term, while eight different Sampdoria players (the same number as Parma) have hit the target. Only Juventus have spread their goals around the team more, with 12 different scorers.

Sampdoria's 12-match scoring run away from home

Sampdoria have hit the back of the net at least once in each of their last 12 away fixtures in competitive competitions, notching up 16 goals in the process. They last drew a blank on 6 April, when they went down 1-0 at Crotone in last season's Serie B campaign.

Daniele Doveri to officiate

Daniele Doveri has never overseen a fixture involving Inter or Sampdoria before.

MILAN - Inter have beaten Sampdoria 3-2 at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza in driving rain, and move to 24 points in the table.

The hosts created chances in the first period yet it was the visitors who took the lead on 20 minutes. Samuel and Ranocchia got in a tangle from Tissone's free-kick and Munari was there to pounce. The Nerazzurri equalised after the interval though, as Milito scored from the spot on 53 minutes. Costa brought the Argentine down from behind, and the referee rightly awarded Inter a penalty and gave the Sampdoria defender his marching orders. 'El Principe' then dispatched the spot-kick and punished the visitors who were now a man light.

Inter then made use of their powerful front line, first through Milito who hit the post, before Palacio scored the Nerazzurri's second after 68 minutes, after Cassano had broken well. Fant'Antonio then struck the crossbar from a free-kick. Inter's third goal arrived ten minutes from time: Nagatomo broke forward, waited for Cassano to arrive and then fed his team-mate. The man from Bari then rolled the ball to his right where Guarin skipped past Estigarribia before lashing a shot past Romero. Eder grabbed an injury time consolation for the visitors but it was Inter who emerged with all three points.
