It was a tough, intense and nervy match, but Inter are through to the round of 16 of the FIFA Club World Cup after a hard-fought win over River Plate. The Nerazzurri created numerous chances, but River’s defence seemed impossible to break down. In the 72nd minute, Francesco Pio Esposito’s first Inter goal finally broke the Los Millonarios’ resistance. Shortly before, the Argentine side had been reduced to ten men following Martinez Quarta’s red card. Late on, Bastoni sealed the win with Inter’s second goal. The Nerazzurri will now face Fluminense in the last 16 on Monday 30 June in Charlotte.
