Stop Racism: Inter at the Shoah Memorial for a new project

MILAN - A few days ahead of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on the anniversary of the 1960 Sharpeville Massacre, the Stop Racism event from Inter in the Community together with the Locauto Group took place at the Shoah Memorial of Milan.

Once again this year, Inter wanted to involve young people in a day of reflection on the subject of racial persecution as the Club continues to oppose all forms of discrimination.

Players from the Elite Academy and children from local schools taking part in the ‘Io Tifo Positivo’ project were in attendance. ‘Io Tifo Positivo’ is a project from Inter in collaboration with the Comune di Milano and the Comunità Nuova Association which combats all forms of discrimination and racism within sport, promoting a positive sporting culture.

After a visit to the historically poignant Platform 21 which was the site of deportations, those involved attended a theatrical monologue from Gianfelice Facchetti.

Those taking part were greeted by Inter Vice President Javier Zanetti, Vice President of the Locauto Group Raffaella Tavazza, President of the Fondazione Memoriale della Shoah di Milano Roberto Jarach and the Club’s Community Relations Manager Alberto Bassani.

"To see the emotion in these guys’ eyes when confronted with this tragic history which affected people of their age with the same dreams for future not that long ago is something that helps us to proceed with initiatives similar to this one," said Javier Zanetti at the event. "Thanks to the Memorial for the welcome and to the Locauto Group for their support."

"Initiatives of this kind enhance memory but above all they value the legacy of a great coach like Arpad Wisz who should not be the exception but the rule," said Roberto Jarach. "Together with Inter who have believed in this project for a second consecutive year and with Gianfelice Facchetti who brings the story of the great coach alive, we reaffirm the founding values of football which is a sport that we all love. Collaboration, respect and teamwork. Especially with regard to new generations, it’s our obligation to create more opportunities and collective experiences in which to reaffirm our rejection of racism and xenophobia which still unfortunately take place in football."
