The rearranged matchday 28 clash will be played at 18:45 CEST tomorrow. Brozovic and Bastoni are both out through suspension

After their win against Bologna on Holy Saturday, Inter are set to take to the pitch once again: at 18:45 CEST on Wednesday, the Nerazzurri will take on Sassuolo in their rearranged matchday 28 clash in Serie A.

THE STATE OF PLAY

Inter will be facing Sassuolo in a match that was originally scheduled for Saturday 20 March. After 20 days without playing, Antonio Conte’s side returned to action on Saturday 3 April, running out 1-0 winners away to Bologna thanks to a first-half goal from Romelu Lukaku. The Nerazzurri have won nine consecutive matches and currently sit top of the league on 68 points.

Roberto De Zerbi’s Sassuolo, meanwhile, are ninth on 40 points. Last time out, the Neroverdi played out a 2-2 draw against Roma. Earlier on in the season, Inter beat their next opponents 3-0 at the Mapei Stadium, with the Nerazzurri’s goals coming from Alexis Sanchez, Gagliardini and Chiriches (an own goal).

The Serie A table

INTER VS. SASSUOLO, STATS AND PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS

Inter’s current winning run is one of the longest that the Nerazzurri have ever enjoyed: only in 2007 have they done better. Back then, Roberto Mancini’s side recorded 17 successive victories. The last side to go on a longer winning streak was Lazio, whose eleven-game run came to an end in January 2020.

Inter have traditionally found it tough going against Sassuolo. The two sides have met 15 times in Serie A, with the Nerazzurri’s record against the Neroverdi reading as follows: six wins, two draws, seven defeats. There have only been two Nerazzurri victories at San Siro, which came in the first two meetings between the teams in Milan. Inter’s last home win against Sassuolo came in 2014. There have been three Sassuolo victories and two stalemates since, with the last encounter being the 3-3 draw last year.

MORE FACTS AND CURRENT FORM

Inter have won ten consecutive matches at San Siro. The Nerazzurri have only done better than this once: in 2011, they won 13 home matches in a row.

Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martínez share a common stat: both scored more than once in a single Serie A match for the first time when Inter beat Sassuolo 4-3 in October 2019. Sassuolo have lost five of their last seven away fixtures in Serie A (W1, D1) after remaining unbeaten in seven matches on the road prior to this (W5, D2). The Neroverdi have conceded at least two goals in each of their last five league games: this is their longest ever run in Serie A in this regard.

DISCIPLINARY SITUATION: BASTONI AND BROZOVIC SUSPENDED

Inter will take to the pitch against Sassuolo without Marcelo Brozovic and Alessandro Bastoni, both of whom are suspended after picking up bookings against Bologna. This is the current disciplinary situation:

SUSPENDED: Bastoni, Brozovic (I)

ONE BOOKING AWAY FROM SUSPENSION: Barella, Lukaku (I); Djuricic, Berardi, Rogerio, Traoré (S).
