The Argentine forward spoke after Inter 3-2 Napoli
MILAN – It had been 336 minutes since Lautaro Martinez had found the net. Yet as with any forward, it’s just a matter of time. The Argentine had not scored since 2 October against Sassuolo. Since then he had missed a penalty in the Milan derby, while also putting in some great performances. Lautaro was back to his old self against Napoli. He had the beating on Kalidou Koulibaly in the encounter and found the net at precisely the best time. His fourth goal against Napoli made the scoreline 3-1 in the Nerazzurri’s favour, standing the team in good stead ahead of Luciano Spalletti’s side’s late onslaught.
In the celebrations for his goal Lautaro expressed his delight with his teammates while also offering an apology to the Inter fans for his missed penalty in the derby. He gave his thoughts to DAZN after the match:
"Given the league standings, it was a crucial match for us. Napoli are also fighting for the title and they’re currently top. We wanted to prove again that we’re doing well even if the results aren’t always going in our favour.
“We put in a characterful performance today. I apologised to the fans when celebrating; sometimes you make mistakes. I’d gone a month without scoring but even when I’m not among the goals I work hard for Inter. I love scoring but winning is more important. Joaquin Correa said that he’d help me out today and he really did.
“As for a title challenge, we need to take things step by step. We need to keep improving because we’re the champions of Italy and it’s our obligation to keep on doing even better.”
