Alexis’s dream goal: “We want to continue down our path”

MILAN – Having bagged the winner late on against Juventus in the Italian Super Cup and opened the scoring with a header against Empoli in the previous round of the Coppa Italia, it was of no surprise that Alexis once again showed his penchant for cup competitions on Tuesday evening at San Siro. This time, it was a thunderbolt of a strike that flew into the top corner to make it 2-0 against Roma and secure Inter’s semi-final berth.

The Chilean, who gleefully celebrated his first goal from outside the box for Inter, also looked back on the derby disappointment and the league standings. “We know that we played better than AC Milan in the derby, but we shouldn’t have made those mistakes. We’re staying calm as we’re still top and we want to continue down our path.”

Inter have a Coppa Italia semi-final to look forward to, with the league and Champions League resuming imminently. “Roma are a good side but we wanted to get through. It’s normal to want to play but that decision is down to the coach. I just want to give my best for the team. Of course, the more I play, the better I feel, but I’m at the disposal of Inter.”
