Records and stats in light of the 1-1 draw against Juventus at San Siro
Inter went away from their 1-1 draw against Juventus with a bitter taste in the mouth given how the 90 minutes played out, and especially for having dropped two points in the latter stages of the encounter. Edin Dzeko once again left his mark on what was a compelling match at San Siro, scoring his seventh Serie A goal of the season, his eighth in all competitions.
The Bosnian hitman is relentless: he has already scored as many goals this campaign for Inter as he did in the entire 2020/21 season for Roma. While last time out Dzeko managed seven goals in 27 appearances, he's already equalled that tally after just nine games.
There is many a stat which highlights what an explosive start Dzeko has made to his Inter career. Firstly, the 34-year-old has become the first Nerazzurri player to score at least seven goals in his first nine games for the club in Serie A since Ronaldo in 1997/98. This stat alone speaks volumes of the impact which the Bosnian has made at San Siro.
When compared with the other big four European leagues, only Mohamed Salah with eight goals and Karim Benzema with seven have scored more goals than Dzeko since the start of September. Only Erling Haaland's seven home goals and Robert Lewandowski six better Edin Dzeko's record of five strikes on home soil across the five major European leagues.
San Siro has proven to be fertile scoring ground for Dzeko: he has scored five goals in four home Serie A games. He netted on his debut against Genoa, before scoring twice against Bologna, once against Atalanta and Juventus, as well as notching a goal against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League. In the era of three points for a win only two Inter players have done better: Mauro Icardi in the 2017/18 season and Marco Branca in 1995/96, both scoring six times.
For the second time in his career Dzeko has struck in each of his first four home appearances playing for a club in the top five European leagues, having done so back in 2016/17.
Dzeko's goals have contributed to Inter's attack being the most prolific in the division. The Nerazzurri have scored 24 times in nine games: the last time they scored as many goals in as many games at the start of the season was back in the 1960/61 campaign.
