Spectacular service from Sánchez, Brozović and many others

MILAN - In our 54 competitive matches last season, the Nerazzurri attempted a total of 25,000 attempted passes. Obviously, not all of them reached their mark, but the Nerazzurri’s game in 2019/20 was characterised by some impressive attacking productivity. In Serie A, Inter finished with an average of 54% ball possession, and 85% passing accuracy, completing 16,211 of their 19,047 attempted passes. Inter often built from the back, with moves starting with Handanović before passing through the entire Nerazzurri lineup. It was by no means uncommon for defenders like Godín or Bastoni to finish matches with the highest number of completed passes.

Inter’s impressive assist tally really stands out, even against this impressive backdrop. Topping the rankings for assists this season were two players who play in very different roles for the Nerazzurri. The first was Marcelo Brozović with nine assists, with a penchant for picking out teammates from dead balls. Also coming out with a tally of nine assists was Alexis Sánchez, despite being out injured for much of the season. Eight of his nine assists came from June onwards, after the restart. Completing our podium is Antonio Candreva, who provided eight assists this season, never shying away from whipping a cross in. lt was a productive year on the wings for the Nerazzurri in general, with an average of 15 crosses a game in Serie A. It’s also well worth mentioning that it wasn't only the wingers who had a productive season. Stefan de Vrij also came out with five assists, a true playmaker, despite playing at the heart of the Nerazzurri defence.
