MILAN - Inter are celebrating Chinese New Year with a series of initiatives celebrating the start of the year of the 牛 (niú), which is usually translated into English as Ox.
The central protagonist of the festivities surrounding the new lunar year in the Nerazzurri household could be none other than Lautaro Martinez. Inter’s number 10, as well as being nicknamed “El Toro” (Spanish for Bull), was born under this sign in 1997.
The hero video of the campaign, launched today on the Club’s official digital channels, plays on the irony in the difference between the significance of the colour red in the world of football (red card) and in Chinese culture, where the red envelope (Hóngbāo) is gifted as a blessing of good fortune. In the video, Lautaro dreams of being sent off by the referee but wakes up only to realise, with great relief, that he has received a traditional red envelope for Chinese New Year, and that the red card in his dream was actually shown to 2020, symbolically sending off the old year in order to welcome the new.
In order to celebrate the changing of the lunar calendar, the Nerazzurri have, furthermore, created a dedicated Capsule Collection. The core element of this product line is the iconic Inter logo, which has been enriched to suit a new level of narrative, bringing with it a minimalistic but impactful representation of the characteristics of the Ox, the animal of this New Year.
The Capsule Collection, which is available from tomorrow – Tuesday 2 February, is comprised of a t-shirt, a sweater and a smartphone case, all emblazoned with the Inter logo that is dedicated to the Chinese New Year. The phone case is on sale exclusively via the Inter Online Store, while the rest of the collection is also available on the Amazon Inter brand store.
Festivities at the Club during Chinese New Year also extend to the game between Inter and Lazio, in which the Nerazzurri will take to the pitch sporting a special Home shirt. This shirt will have the players’ names on the back written in Chinese characters, a special patch on the left sleeve and a unique print with the Ox to enrich the number.
Furthermore a limited number of Lukaku, Lautaro, Barella and Hakimi shirts will be available, from tomorrow, on the Inter Online Store.
As part of Inter vs. Lazio, the Social Wall will bear the Chinese New Year theme too, as the best wishes of the children from Inter Academy shall appear. Inter’s eSports team will also be getting involved in the festivities; in fact, a game against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Chinese commentary and a FIFA tournament dedicated to the Chinese audience will be held. Finally, there will also be a contest dedicated to Argentina, in which a Lautaro shirt will be up for grabs.
