APPIANO GENTILE – Adriano Bonaiuti has been the goalkeeping coach at Inter since 2013 and is currently hard at work with Samir Handanovic and Co. ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.
Bonaiuti has been speaking to Inter TV about his work with the goalkeepers in the squad.
How has the new season gone so far?
“There are always new ways of working when a new coach comes in, but everything is going well. We’re going in the right direction.”
What’s the main focus of your work with the keepers?
“It’s a very comprehensive focus because as well as making saves, goalkeepers now need to be able to play with their feet – that’s the way the role has evolved in modern football. We try to raise the bar every time by enhancing all the situations we work on. I have a great working relationship with Gianluca Zappala [another goalkeeping coach].”
You’ve been working with Samir Handanovic for many years – and he finally got his hands on the Scudetto trophy last season.
“I’m delighted with the Scudetto win last season and really happy for Samir. He was crucial in the big games, making some really massive saves. It was important for him to crown his career with that achievement, so it’s doubly pleasing.”
What are the goals for the season ahead?
“When you’re at the start of a new season, you always have high expectations. We want to consolidate what we’ve done and go further in the Champions League.”
