The Nerazzurri take to the pitch in Kyiv on Tuesday in the team’s second Champions League group game


GROUP D: THE LATEST

Real Madrid and Sheriff Tiraspol enjoyed winning starts in Group D, leaving Inter and Shakhtar pointless after the first game. The Nerazzurri fell to a 1-0 defeat at San Siro at the hands of Los Blancos after Rodrygo struck the winner late on. Shakhtar were beaten 2-0 in Moldova, with Adama Traore and Momo Yansane getting the goals for the hosts.

THE GROUP D SCHEDULE

Inter take to the pitch at 18:45 CEST on Tuesday to face Shakhtar, while Real Madrid will host Sheriff at the Bernabeu at 21:00 later that evening. Matchday 3 in Group D will take place on Tuesday 19 October when Inter host Sheriff and Shakhtar welcome Real Madrid to Ukraine.

KYIV PLAYS HOST

Shakhtar are from the city of Donetsk, but have played their football in Kyiv for many years. The Champions League clash will be played at the National Sports Complex Olimpiyskiy in Kyiv, over 750km from Donetsk.

KICK-OFF AT 18:45 CEST

There’s a one-hour time difference between Kyiv and Milan. Inter will take to the pitch at 18:45 CEST, which will be 19:45 local time.

CORREA AND VIDAL IN THE SQUAD

Simone Inzaghi’s 23-man squad includes Joaquin Correa and Arturo Vidal, who missed out on the previous two games. Inter come into the game off the back of a thrilling 2-2 draw with Atalanta in the league.

FORM GUIDE: SHAKHTAR

The Ukrainian side sit second in the league after nine games, three points behind Dynamo Kyiv. Roberto De Zerbi’s team have picked up seven wins, one draw and one defeat so far, scoring 23 goals and conceding five.

Lassina Traore is the top goalscorer on six league goals, with a tally of nine in all competitions, including a brace in the 3-0 win in the Ukrainian Super Cup over Dynamo Kyiv, which allowed De Zerbi to get his hands on his first trophy since taking over the reins earlier this year. Shakhtar ran out 4-1 winners over Veres Rivne in their last league outing, with the coach rotating the team.

The club’s route to the Champions League group stage included victory over Genk in the third qualifying round and getting the better of Monaco in the play-offs.

DE ZERBI’S SELECTION HEADACHE

As mentioned in the Ukrainian outfit’s official report, in the final training session ahead of the game, three of De Zerbi’s players – Evgeny Konoplyanka, Valery Bondar and Georgy Sudakov – trained individually. Dentinho and Fernando are still recovering from injury.
