KYIV – Cristian Chivu's U!9s edged out their Shakhtar counter-parts in Kyiv to record a first UEFA Youth League win of the season.
Cesare Casadei broke the deadlock half an hour into a tensely fought first half when he headed home Franco Carboni's pinpoint cross.
Lorenzo Peschetola almost doubled the Nerazzurri's lead minutes later but was denied by the post, then Fabio Abiuso went close after the restart.
Shakhtar came into the ascendancy after that as they set about mustering an equaliser but Chivu's side held firm, and indeed had the better chances towards the end, as it finished 1-0.
After drawing with Real Madrid on the opening day, victory puts Inter on four points in Group D of the UEFA Youth League, with Sheriff Tiraspol next up.
