The Inter forward has been nominated for the UEFA Player of the Week award thanks to brace against Shakhtar
MILAN – The Swan from Sarajevo bucked the trend by putting an end to a run of three goalless draws between Inter and Shakhtar with a crucial brace in the second half to fire Inter up to ten points in Group D and secure a place in the round of 16 with a game to spare.
Edin Dzeko was the match-winner in Inter’s 2-0 victory over Shakhtar, which was the Nerazzurri’s third win in a row in the competition after losing to Real Madrid at home in the opener and drawing with the Ukrainian side in Kyiv.
Matteo Darmian’s shot was blocked in the 61st minute, but Dzeko made no mistake with the rebound as he thundered a right-footed shot into the corner. His second goal came six minutes later when he headed home Ivan Perisic’s perfect cross.
The Inter number 9 has been nominated for the UEFA Player of the Week award on Matchday 5 in the Champions League alongside Emil Forsberg (Leipzig), Pedro Goncalves (Sporting CP) and Sebastien Haller (Ajax).
