Inter continue to fly high in Serie A, having put Salernitana to the sword in a 5-0 rout at the Stadio Arechi on Friday evening. It was the team’s sixth league win in a row and the fifth clean sheet on the bounce. The club also set a new record for goals scored in a calendar year, with the tally for 2021 now 103, while the previous record of 99 was set back in 1950.
Ivan Perisic opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a header from a pinpoint Hakan Calhanoglu corner. The Nerazzurri finally doubled their lead when Denzel Dumfries dispatched Edin Dzeko’s low cross with a right-footed strike, with goal-line technology confirming that the ball had gone over the line.
Inter showed no remorse in the second half, with Alexis Sanchez finishing off a flowing counter-attack involving Edin Dzeko and Calhanoglu, which saw the Turk register his second assist of the game. Lautaro Martinez and Roberto Gagliardini were both well placed to make the most of loose balls in the box to add gloss to the scoreline and ensure Simone Inzaghi’s charges left Salerno with all three points.
