Farris: "Disappointing given the chances we had, but it wasn’t easy after Wednesday"

The words of the assistant coach after Atalanta v Inter: “We have a togetherness and awareness. We must keep going in this direction”


BERGAMO – There were chances aplenty but no goals in Bergamo as the Sunday evening game in Week 22 in Serie A saw Atalanta and Inter play out a nil-nil draw. Simone Inzaghi's Nerazzurri failed to make it a ninth consecutive league victory but they did manage to keep a clean sheet for a fifth away match in Serie A for the first time since the introduction of three points for a win. 

Inter's assistant coach Massimiliano Farris gave his take after the match: "The coach still hasn’t got his voice back after the Super Cup win on Wednesday, so he asked me to stand in for him in the interviews," he told DAZN reporters. 

"Tonight we tried to find space at the top end of the pitch by building from the back. We were coming off the back of an extremely tough and taxing 120 minutes against a very physical Juventus side. Spending so much physical and mental energy to then face Atalanta with three days in between was never going to be easy.

"We're happy with our performance, but we're a bit disappointed considering the amount of chances we had. That being said we have to give credit to our opponents who are a great side.”

Farris signed off by commenting on the team's improvement in terms of game management.

"During the match we managed to keep a hold of the ball for several minutes. That is what we're aiming for although we don't want to have possession and not do anything with it. We're managing to adapt to situations and also improve our movement with our defenders. 

“We have great confidence in our ability, regardless of how good our opponents are. There is a great togetherness and awareness. We're happy with the what we've done until now but we want to keep going in this direction because there are a lot of great teams out there,"
