Tonight's event will begin at 22:00 CEST: watch Bologna 2-4 Inter in full

MILAN - 14 September 1997: the date when Ronaldo scored the first of his 59 goals in the Nerazzurri shirt. It came on matchday two of the 1997/98 Serie A season at the Stadio Dall’Ara in Bologna. With the rain pouring down, stars like El Fenomeno, Roberto Baggio and Youri Djorkaeff battled it out on a heavy pitch.

This evening, we’ll be reliving this historic match in full on YouTube in our latest Inter Classics event. At 22:00 CEST, we’ll be waiting for you to tune in to watch a match where, 23 years ago, Inter fans were able to celebrate Ronaldo scoring for the Club for the first time. And it was a superb goal too.

Fabio Galante broke the deadlock before Maurizio Ganz doubled the Nerazzurri’s lead. Roberto Baggio then found the net from a free kick to get the home side back into it. Seven minutes into the second half, Ronaldo scored his first, eagerly anticipated goal: one touch to control the ball, one touch to storm past the defender, and one further touch to score. Giuseppe Bergomi, who was out on the pitch that day, spoke about that moment just a few months ago: “He was being marked by Massimo Paganin, who’d just left Inter to join Bologna. That moment went down in history: a dummy with his right foot to beat his marker and then a strike with his left to fire past Brunner at his near post. Ronaldo made it look easy.”

The scoring didn’t end there: after Baggio had pulled another one back for Bologna, Youri Djorkaeff produced the goods with a sublime lob from the edge of the area. It was a magnificent goal to cap off a game to remember. And one which will now be relived!
