PREVIOUS ENCOUNTERS:

Inter have played 24 matches in Europe on German soil, with the Nerazzurri’s record reading as follows: six wins, eight draws, ten defeats. Particularly memorable are their wins against Bayern Munich in 1988 (Berti’s wonderful solo effort) and 2011 (when Pandev scored the decisive goal), plus the victory achieved away to Borussia Dortmund in 1994.

There have been 19 previous matches in European competitions between Borussia Mönchengladbach and Italian teams. The Germans have won six, the Italians four, with nine draws completing the picture.

Inter's last encounter in Mönchengladbach dates back to 1979, with Altobelli getting on the scoresheet for Inter in a 1-1 draw. The most famous showdown in the German city was the “match of the tin can”, which we looked back on here.

PRESS CONFERENCE

THE WORDS OF ANTONIO CONTE

"We began our Champions League campaign in charge of our destiny, the fact that this is no longer the case means that we’ve come up short in certain situations. The only way to keep our hopes alive is to win our match against Borussia. We know that it won’t be easy, they’ve shown how strong they are. However, it’s an opportunity to carry on down a path in Europe where important knockout matches are often played. This is a further test for us”.

THE WORDS OF ANDREA RANOCCHIA

"Tomorrow, we need to approach the match like we did for our last league fixture: there needs to be the same team spirit and desire to bring home three points as we face a side that is doing well and which has good individual players. We need to be mindful of the team we’re facing but also believe in what we’re doing and building. Our only objective must be to win, nothing else will do tomorrow.”
