Inter Campus Colombia, in the borderlands

Tumaco lies just 50 kilometres away from the first city on the coast of Ecuador. They’re separated however by enormous mountains which mean the journey takes eight hours by car. Elsewhere, Puerto Carreño looks over Venezuela which is just metres away but to get there, you have to cross the Rio Orinoco which serves as the border between the two countries.

 Both port cities are very far apart but they’re linked by trade in an economy that isn’t always totally legitimate as it operates in a climate of tension, cunning and scheming. The army is present on a huge scale and in an invasive fashion but there are no problems in terms of cultural integration. 

Here, Inter Campus looks to keep the kids far away from the dangers of drug trafficking and petty crime which are widespread. The production of narcotics is very high and so is consumption and the drugs trade as a result. Families don’t always have the strength to deal with such challenges and can allow their children to be drawn into this world. By playing three times a week in a Nerazzurri shirt in the sun and the rain, we want to demonstrate that there’s always an alternative and provide hope! At 12, it’s only right to focus on school and play sport with friends and it doesn’t matter if they’re Colombians, Ecuadorians or Venezuelans.
