MILAN - A twelfth league win in Serie A 2019/20 for Antonio Conte’s Inter, who overcame SPAL at San Siro on matchday 14 thanks to a Lautaro Martinez brace, the Argentine leaving more than a mark on the 2-1 end result.
With regard to the three points that take the Nerazzurri back to the top of the table, Coach Conte said the following: “We’ve been working since day one to cause our opponents problems. We’re certainly doing a great job, but we’ve only played 14 games. Being back in top spot of the league ought to fill us with pride and satisfaction because we know the path that we’re on well. But we have to give even more and make the most of this positive enthusiasm, and we have to manage games like today’s better. Just one unlucky moment would have been enough to slip to a draw in a match where we deserved nothing but a win.
“There was real desire on display today and when a team like Juventus drops points, you need to make sure that you make the most of that. But we need to look at ourselves, we need to keep moving down this path of growth. The moment of difficulty allowed us to raise our level of focus even further; therefore my glass is half full because I’m getting great responses out of everybody.
To close, a word on the attacking duo who are making fans dream: “Lautaro and Lukaku are working really hard and have both improved a lot. The best strikers are those who play for the team in both phases of the game, those who are always looking for each other and trying to help each other out. Lautaro scored two goals today but Lukaku also had a great game. They’re two young players who can still keep on improving. What’s important is that they always maintain this attitude.”
