Eva Bartonova’s strike isn’t enough as it ends 2-1 to the Rossonere in the #DerbyMilano

MONZA – The #DerbyMilano finishes 2-1 to the Rossonere at the Stadio Brianteo. Inter’s good performance was marked by Bartonova’s goal to give them the temporary lead, but the Rossonere mounted a comeback through Thorvaldsottir and Giacinti’s goals.

The game started feistily, especially in the middle of the park where both of the teams tried to break up their opponent’s rhythm. In the sixth minute Giacinti went through one-on-one for AC Milan, but Roberta Aprile saved with her feet. The first important moment of the match came in the ninth minute when Gloria Marinelli evaded Fusetti’s challenge and fired a shot off: Korenciova saved and Stefania Tarenzi latched onto the rebound, but the Rossonere’s number 12 recovered well to keep the second attempt out too. On the half-hour mark Lisa Alborghetti struck powerfully from distance, forcing Korenciova into action yet again. AC Milan responded through Hovland, but Roberta Aprile was alive and ready to make the save.

At the beginning of the second half, Marinelli raced down the right and shot at goal, but Korenciova saved. In the 52nd minute the ball dropped to Bartonova after a corner and she unleashed a rocket to give Inter the lead. Soon after, Heroum tried to reply with a wonder-strike of her own but Aprile saved brilliantly. AC Milan then found the equaliser in the 68th minute through Thorvaldsdottir. Minutes later, the referee gave a penalty to AC Milan (Merlot sent off after receiving a second yellow for the incident), but Giacinti missed from the spot. The Rossonere took the lead in the 77th minute as Giacinti fired into the bottom corner from inside the box. Sorbi’s girls fought for an equaliser in the final minutes, but they couldn’t quite manage it: it finished AC Milan 2-1 Inter.
