The Slovenian has become the best penalty saver in Italian top-flight history

MILAN – Milan’s first goal was scored by Ibrahimovic, who, following a right-footed effort on goal from the penalty spot, tucked away the rebound after his spot-kick had initially been parried by the Inter goalkeeper. Despite the disappointment, Samir Handanovic took his tally of penalty saves in Serie A to 25, making him the best penalty saver in Italian top-flight history. From 2005 to now, the Slovenian has saved 25 penalties in 481 games, moving above Gianluca Pagliuca, who is second in this particular ranking (24 penalty saves in 592 games).

It’s a record, however, that doesn’t numb the pain of losing the Derby: “Ibrahimovic played his part, whereas we weren’t clinical enough and failed to take the numerous chances we had. Anyhow, we made a good show of ourselves. Wednesday brings another game and we need to look forward to that. We had a day and a half to prepare for the Derby, and we managed to put in a good performance.

“We concede a lot? Well, we also create a lot, which is why we afford our opponents a bit more space. We need to be more balanced as a team. I have a lot of confidence in this team: I trust that we’ll be positive as we usually are and do our best to win on Wednesday. We'll definitely study the positive and negative aspects to tonight’s game, but mentally we’ve got to be prepared for Wednesday.”
