Interview with the Nerazzurri full-back ahead of Sunday’s game against Torino, the team with which he played for four seasons

APPIANO GENTILE – On Sunday, he will play against his old Club, where he played four seasons. Arriving to Inter in the last days of the transfer window, Matteo Darmian has started his Inter journey with a bang, showing great professionalism and putting in some excellent performances. He told Sky Sport his feelings at the beginning of the season.

You’ve had a great impact, right from the first game: how are you finding it?

“I’m feeling good, I’m at home in this squad. I already knew our coach from playing for Italy and I also knew many teammates: slotting in was easy. Now it’s up to us to do our best.”

What is the true aim of this team?

“How far can we go? This is absolutely our responsibility; it’s up to what we do on the pitch. We just have to think about improving, doing well day after day, and then the results will come.”

You have had a good career, with a stint at Manchester United. Would you have expected to arrive at Inter at this point in your career?

“In football, nothing is certain. I started in AC Milan’s Youth Sector, I did all the work and I developed in a humble manner, from a football perspective. I had several experiences and I wanted to prove my worth. My time with Torino was important; it was four years where I had a great time and I developed hugely, I also trusted my coach and the surrounding environment. Being with that club, I was able to prove my worth and achieve great goals and it will be really nice to play against them on Sunday. The three points will be my sole focus. From Torino, I moved to United, one of the biggest clubs in the world. It was a fantastic experience and I have great pride in myself. Today, I play for a Club which is just as important and as always, I will try to do my best.”

What’s special about Antonio Conte?

“He expects a lot from us, every day. He scrutinises every detail and this makes the difference. He is someone who always wants to win and he passes all this on to the team.”
