A true legend of Italian sport, a champion who continues to write unique and thrilling chapters in history: Arianna Fontana was welcomed by San Siro during the pre-match build-up to Inter vs Genoa.
At the beginning of February, Arianna had already taken centre stage at the Meazza, serving as Italy’s flag bearer during the Opening Ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics. The short track superstar experienced unforgettable Games: after leading the Italian team into the stadium, she went on to win three medals. A gold in the mixed relay and two silvers, one in the individual 500m and one in the women’s 3000m relay.
Those results firmly cemented Fontana’s place among the greats of Italian sport. Since 2006 Winter Olympics, she has competed in six Olympic Games, winning at least one medal at each edition. With the three medals claimed at Milano-Cortina, Fontana reached a total of 14 Olympic medals, surpassing the historic record of Edoardo Mangiarotti and becoming the most decorated Italian Olympian of all time.
Now, almost a month after the Opening Ceremony, Arianna, a passionate Nerazzurri supporter, returned to San Siro, where she was presented with a personalised Inter shirt by Vice President Javier Zanetti and warmly welcomed and applauded by the Inter fans.
“Being in this stadium for the Opening Ceremony was a dream come true. I’ve come here many times to watch Inter, and I had already imagined that moment. When we walked in, me, Federico Pellegrino and all the Italian athletes, we felt an incredible roar and energy from the crowd. After the Olympics, it was amazing, and I managed to win three more medals. Coming to the stadium now is also a chance to spend time with my brother. When I was living in Montreal, I connected with the local Inter Club Montreal, who welcomed me and helped me organise watching matches. My brother introduced me to Inter - my passion for the club started because of him and my dad. Seeing football through my brother’s eyes made me fall in love with the sport and with the Nerazzurri. ”
