A victorious game for Inter, featuring a second half played with quality and character. The Nerazzurri's win over Cagliari secured three vital points in the final stretch of the season, as Inter move towards the end of the league campaign. There were three goals, three points, and a very happy Cristian Chivu at full-time. The Nerazzurri coach analysed his team's performance in the post-match interviews, highlighting the importance of the group's strong mentality.
These are Chivu's comments in the post-match interview:
“We knew how important this game was going to be. In the first half, we had some difficulties in terms of building up play, and we gave them too much space, which made them seem dangerous. In the second half, we passed better and moved a lot more fluidly, and when Inter broke the deadlock, the pressure was lifted, and we began to enjoy ourselves, finding our momentum and playing how we wanted. We have quality, great players, and great people who enjoy playing together. There's a real awareness of all the work that's been done and of how much progress that's been made as a result of it to make us competitive. We've achieved our goal to qualify for the Champions League, and now we hope to stay competitive until the very end. There are some very strong mental qualities in these players. They put last season behind them, stepped up, and took responsibility right from the start. They've always responded, holding on to the strong foundation they had built with determination and hunger. The Champions League? It's never easy. You're up against very high-level teams, like English teams and others that get stronger every year by spending huge amounts, and even then, there's no guarantee of winning. We want to be competitive in Europe too; that's one of the goals of top clubs. Qualifying for the Champions League is no small feat, because everyone wants to play at that level. ”
