The Germany legend who played a pivotal role in our record-breaking Scudetto turns 56 today

MILAN - Lothar Matthaus celebrates his 56th birthday today!ì.

The former Germany midfielder played 153 games for Inter, helping us to win our record-breaking Scudetto (1988/89), the Italian Super Cup (1989) and UEFA Cup (1991), with a World Cup and a Ballon d'Or sandwiched in between.

An instant fan favourite, Lothar has never forgotten the love he was shown by the Nerazzurri faithful in Milan. Speaking at a "Night Out" event a few months ago, he said: "San Siro was my home. I spent a very intense period of my life here and I was very happy."

Many happy returns, Lothar!
