With the Central American Games just around the corner, activity continues in Managua with the handing over of Nerazzurri shirts

In just a few months, Managua will no longer just be the capital of Nicaragua but also a sporting and cultural capital for Central America. From 3rd to 17th December, it will host the Central American Games and welcome hundreds of athletes and fans from across the region. The sports centre which welcomes us will be the main stage for the event. During our first visit of the season, we can see on the faces of the Nicaraguan athletes in training the significance of what will be an unforgettable event for them in just a few months.

Amidst a party atmosphere, hundreds of children from across the city who have been a part of the project for various years have the chance to play and enjoy themselves on the pitch surrounded by the running track for three days. With all the tension of the athletes, our kids bring a different atmosphere with the smiles on their faces. The handing over of new Inter shirts makes the mood even more celebratory and colourful. The local press were also there for the moment that the shirts were presented as a reminder of the project’s local importance.

Our visit ends with a roundtable meeting with our local partners  l'Association Nicaragua Joven e l'Asociación CAIE and the Minister for Sport. It was an important moment as we discussed how the project was going and how it could evolve for the future. Sat by this table, we feel as though we’re playing a part at the centre of a country where football can be used as a vehicle for change for children and that the work of Inter Campus is playing an important role in helping children.
