Spalletti's side picked up another win in the International Champions Cup

MADRID - Inter left the Wanda Metropolitano with a prestigious win against Atletico Madrid. The Nerazzurri’s 2018 International Champions Cup therefore concludes on seven points, level with Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund but Inter are third on goal difference.

The sides looked to figure one another out in the early minutes before the Nerazzurri took heart and got up to the pitch, also thanks to Marcelo Brozovic’s passing. The first chance however came thanks to a ball forward from Vecino that found Asamoah, Lautaro then freed up Icardi with a feint but Oblak saved. A few minutes later, Brozovic tried his luck but Oblak saved again. The opening goal came in the 31st minute and it was a stunner from Lautaro Martinez. Asamoah played a diagonal ball to the far post and the ‘Toro’ found the corner with an acrobatic volley.

Just before the break, Atletico saw an equaliser disallowed following the use of VAR and so the sides went back to the changing rooms with the Nerazzurri in the lead.

After the break, Atletico were more dangerous and they pushed to level but the Nerazzurri’s defence responded. 15 minutes in, the changes completely revolutionised the midfields and the tempo dropped but this allowed Karamoh to pose a threat on the break. In the 75th minute, Gagliardini played a through-ball for the Frenchman to run onto in space before cutting onto his left but the pass for Borja Valero was misplaced. Just before the end, Handanovic kept the result intact with a superb point-blank save from Vitolo before then also coming off his line well.

After four minutes of stoppage time, Inter left with another win. Next week, the team will train for the first competitive match of the season away at Sassuolo.
