Mission Inter Campus Cameroon: the Mister’s point of view

Pitch conditions didn’t halt the kids’ activities in Cameroon, as enthusiasm and commitment still shone through

Our training pitch had gotten worse since we were here last. There’s a few more holes in the ground, overgrown weeds here and there and the wooden doors (yes, wooden and made up of three branches) are rotting and falling off. However, this matters little at Inter Campus, where children play normally, together with us.

So as training gets underway, we set off with our groups of different ages. Working with my kids, who are aged between 12-14 and have already shown ability, I adopt an increased focus on collective exercises and tactics. The aim is to encourage the kids to think instinctively, pushing them to find space out on the pitch and lose their markers. We also worked on possession and intensity, while also obviously having fun!

It was slightly difficult at first, however, the session soon reached full flow and some of the lads really began to fly. Further exercises followed, finally ending with a super practice match. We all eventually left the pitch satisfied with what we’d achieved, feeling that the lads had really come on during our time out on the pitch. They’d enjoyed themselves, putting in maximum effort all with a smile on their faces. It was then time to say a smiling goodbye until next time. Well done, lads. Merci.
