Today in Montevideo, the first Inter Academy in Uruguay opened in the presence of vice president Javier Zanetti

MONTEVIDEO - The opening of the very first Inter Academy in Uruguay marks another step forward in the Nerazzurri initiative's global expansion efforts. Today, following the announcement on social media, alongside that of Diego Godin's arrival at the club, the Inter Academy in Montevideo was inaugurated.

The launch event took place today in the Uruguayan capital, with Inter vice president JavierZanetti in attendance. The legendary defender met with the press and took part in the very first activities involving young footballers out on the Inter Academy field.

The opening of Inter Academy Uruguay marks the beginning of efforts to bring high-quality technical coaching to both young players and coaches in the country. The Inter Academy initiative provides youngsters with an opportunity to improve and train, in keeping with the high technical and ethical standards set by Inter, while staying in their own country, an environment in which they can develop from a footballing and human perspective.

JavierZanetti, vice president of FC Internazionale Milano, says: 'Thanks to Inter Academy, many children have an opportunity to develop not only as footballers but as people, upholding the values that have always set Inter apart, and can do so in their own countries, without having to travel far from home.

'I am delighted that this is now a possibility for the children of Uruguay, a country that has always had a deep connection with the Nerazzurri colours.'

Meanwhile Martín Acosta and Nicolás López, who are to lead Inter Academy Uruguay, add: 'For us it's an honour to become part of the Inter Academy project, with which we share the aim of helping to pass on to young Uruguayans the values upheld by Inter, a great club where many of our compatriots have made history.

'The opening of Inter Academy Uruguay can only help strengthen this link. Our main aim is to see children grow up happily, through team sport and healthy competition.'

The first step of the initiative will take place in Montevideo from September, with 50 children aged between 6 and 12 involved. Inter Academy coach Luigi Mainolfi will kick off the coaching work.
