The answer to our quiz on Instagram: the Brazilian left-back scored his first Nerazzurri goal against Parma on 1 April 2007

Maxwell Scherrer Cabelino Andrade. Known by all as Maxwell and by Inter fans as “Conte Max”. A wonderful player with a spectacular left-foot and superb technique. We all have fine memories of the Brazilian left-back’s time at the Club, which saw Inter win three Scudetti and two Italian Super Cups in just three seasons. Having arrived in Italy in January 2006 after a severe injury suffered at Ajax, Maxwell was a cornerstone of the Nerazzurri starting line-up from the 2006/07 season onwards.

His style of play was unmistakable: head up, elegant posture and a sublime touch on his left foot. Control, crossing, passing; he had it all. He recorded 105 appearances and two goals over his three seasons with the Nerazzurri. In fact, the first of these two came against Parma, the same team which the Nerazzurri face this Saturday at 18:00 CEST at San Siro (click here for ticket info). But let’s first look back on that sensational goal from Maxwell on 1 April 2007.

With the ball having been switched across the pitch it looked destined to be going out of play, but Maxwell nipped in and stopped the ball from going out for a throw on the left, touching it round the opponent who had already committed. He played it into Crespo’s feet and continued his surge forwards, driving into the penalty area. He received it back, controlled with his right, touched forward with his left and then back onto his right. Three defenders simply dazed by the Brazilian’s quick feet, he then fired a rocket of a shot in under the crossbar. A spectacular finish to make it 2-0 to Inter.

After leaving the Nerazzurri, Maxwell went on to play for both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. His career has seen plenty of trophies, with the Brazilian winning 37 titles between Cruzeiro, Ajax, Inter, Barcelona and PSG. Cups and league titles of every kind, from the Copa do Brasil to the Champions League, from the Scudetto to Dutch, French and Spanish league titles. A career full of success for the former player born in 1981, who now finds himself as Assistant Sporting Director at PSG.
