Today an icon of Italian football, the Coach of the record winning Scudetto turns 81

MILAN – Non-stop, passionate and determined. A genuine love of football is what has always guided Giovanni Trapattoni, the ‘Trap’, and he transmits that feeling to both players and fans: “I absolutely love the green grass and the ball being kicked about; I became a coach because I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else.”

This passion allowed him to write Italian football history like the record winning Scudetto in the 1988/89 season: 34 matches, two defeats, six draws, 26 wins, 67 goals scored and only 19 conceded. The team won 58 points out of the 68 available and won the Scudetto at San Siro four matchdays early after beating Maradona’s Napoli. That team, which included the likes of Brehme and Matthäus, Bergomi and Berti, Serena and Diaz combined teamwork, skill and a hunger to win.

Trapattoni was in the Inter dugout from 1986 to 1991 and alongside the record winning Scudetto he won the 1989 Super Cup and 1990/91 UEFA Cup with the Nerazzurri.

Best wishes to ‘Trap’ Giovanni Trapattoni on his 81st birthday from all of FC Internazionale Milano and our fans worldwide!
