The Dane scored his fourth Nerazzurri goal against Getafe

Christian Eriksen scored his fourth Inter goal during the closing stages of the Nerazzurri’s match against Getafe, one which doubled the team’s lead and sealed their place in the quarter-finals. The Danish midfielder spoke about the match to Inter TV: “When you come on from the bench, you always want to make the biggest impact you can on the game. I was fortunate to be able to make the most of an opportunity which came my way having just entered the fray. We killed off the match, which was a tough encounter, and managed to progress.”

It was a left-footed finish which saw Eriksen build on his impressive statistics in the Europa League: he’s now scored three and provided two assists in his last four appearances in the competition. “For me, shooting with my right or left doesn’t make a difference. The ball came to my left foot and a struck it quickly. I could have perhaps made a better connection, but the goalkeeper had gone down early and it all worked out.”

Inter will next be in action on Monday, when they’ll face Leverkusen or Rangers in the quarter-finals: “This is an important competition. It doesn’t matter where and under what conditions you’re playing, you should only be focused on the upcoming match. It’s certainly not as fun playing without fans, the atmosphere isn’t there. We’ll try to excite them while they’re watching on TV, and we’re hoping that we’ll be able to embrace our supporters again soon. As regards our next opponents, it’ll be a great game if we’re up against Bayer Leverkusen: they have good players and have done well in the cup.”

Eriksen also pointed out the differences between English and Italian football: “Premier League football is certainly more direct. You’re constantly running up and down the pitch. In Italy, meanwhile, more attention is paid to winning the ball back and managing certain moments of the match. I’ve had to deal with being man-marked at times. It’s a different kind of game from what I’m used to, but it’s enjoyable and I like it.
