Facts and stats on Sunday's game at the Meazza

MILAN – On Sunday, Inter take on Spezia on Serie A matchday 13, with kick-off set for 15:00 CET at the Meazza. The Nerazzurri are in fine form in the league, having won all of their last five matches - against Torino, Sassuolo, Bologna, Cagliari and Napoli - and sit on 27 points in the table. Vincenzo Italiano’s side, who have taken eleven points from twelve games, drew at home to Bologna last time out.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS BETWEEN INTER AND SPEZIA

We have to go back to August 1989 to find the most recent meeting between Inter and Spezia. The Nerazzurri won 1-0 that day, the only goal being scored by a certain Jürgen Klinsmann on his debut for the Club. That match was a Coppa Italia first round tie and was played at the Stadio Brianteo in Monza because San Siro was undergoing renovations ahead of Italia ’90.

CURRENT FORM AND STATS

Inter go into tomorrow’s game on 27 points after a run of five consecutive wins in the league. Antonio Conte’s side have the best attack in Serie A, with 30 goals scored. This is the ninth season in history, in which the Nerazzurri have scored 30 goals in their first twelve matches (the first since 1960/61). Inter have won 15 of their last league 19 games against newly promoted sides; three draws and just the one loss (against Parma in September 2018) complete the picture.

Vincenzo Italiano’s Spezia are, at the time of writing, on eleven points in the league and go into this match on the back of a 2-2 draw at home to Bologna. The Aquilotti have won just two games so far, drawn five and lost five. In their first twelve games this season, they have scored 17 goals and conceded 25. Spezia have an even away record with two wins, two draws and two defeats.

Six of the last seven teams that have played their first-ever Serie A away game at the Meazza against Inter have lost; the only exception was Carpi (1-1 in January 2016).

PLAYER FOCUS

Romelu Lukaku is one of just three players to have hit double figures in each of their last nine seasons in Europe’s Top-5 leagues - alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Roberto Lewandowski. The Belgian’s next appearance will be his 300th in Europe’s Top-5 leagues. Since his debut with Chelsea in 2011/12, Lukaku has scored against 42 different teams (a total of 146 goals) - less only than Edin Dzeko (48) in the Premier League and Serie A.

M’Bala Nzola has scored six goals this season from just eight shots on target: he is the youngest player with at least six goals in Serie A to his name this season (born in 1996).
