Official Statement: Serie A suspended

This decision has been taken following measures introduced to contain the spread of the Covid-19 virus


MILAN – The Federal Council has decreed the suspension of all football competitions organised by the FIGC.

This is the official statement from the Italian Football Federation:

“In light of the

  • Decree Law 23/02/2020 No.6 from 23/02/2020 concerning “Urgent measures for the containment and management of the COVID-19 epidemiological emergency”;

  • Prime Minister’s Decree from 9 March 2020 concerning “further urgent measures to contain the spread throughout Italy”;

  • the suspension of events and sports competitions of any type in public or private places until 3 April 2020, as set out in the aforementioned Decree dated 9 March 2020 and

  • bearing in mind Article 27 of the Federal Statute,

the Federal Council has taken the decision to suspend all football competitions organised by the FIGC until 3 April 2020.

As a result, the current Serie A TIM season will be suspended for the time period mentioned above.
