Quotes from the Coach following Inter's 3-0 victory over Genoa: "We undoubtedly can and must improve, but the lads aren't giving up"

GENOA - It was a clear and well-deserved win for Antonio Conte’s side, who climbed back up to second in the table following the 3-0 win over Genoa at the Stadio Ferraris on matchday 36 of the Serie A season. Here was what the Nerazzurri Coach had to say following the match.

Looking at the stats (76 points, the most since 2010-11, the best defence and second-best attack in the league), this season hasn’t gone too badly for Inter, right? “I don’t know because the glass has always been seen as half-empty in the recent period. The figures are clear though and comforting. These guys are doing some very good things. Of course, we can and must improve but I have to congratulate the lads for the good that they’re doing. We’ve got serious guys here who work hard and don’t give up. There are regrets about some games but unfortunately, there are years when you get less than what is deserved. I think that happened to us this year.”

How disappointed are you not to have Alexis Sanchez available for the Europa League final phases considering what he’s shown in recent games? “I hope that the Club can resolve the situation because so far, Alexis hasn’t been available much as we’ve played three or four in the league with the usual pair of Lautaro and Lukaku along with a youngster in Esposito, who still has to make his way in the game. To have a quality alternative in attack would be vital for us.” How will Inter approach the last two matches considering that the schedule is very busy with the Europa League returning?“We need to finish this season in the best way. Our fans deserve it and we deserve it. The statistics are important and I want them to reflect the good work done by these guys at the end of the season. Therefore, our ambition is to finish as high as possible. We won’t win the league but we have to be hungry to finish as high as possible.”

Would winning the Europa League help accelerate the development process? “Winning is never easy, there are great teams in the Europa League. Manchester United above all. We certainly want to do our best and I always tell the guys that we can’t set limits on ourselves. At the same time, we need to be aware of our journey and the fact that we need to improve. Getafe are a gritty side and they’ve made Barcelona and Real Madrid struggle. It won’t be easy, and that’s also because we’re going into the Europa League after a tough run. I hope to have everybody available for that game, because we’ve had problems this year, especially in midfield. Vecino, Sensi and Sanchez were unexpected absences, while we have to thank Borja Valero: he's saved us in many situations when we were stretched, responding excellently.”
