A very important win on the road for the Nerazzurri, who move up to second in the league

EMPOLI – Armando Madonna’s side recorded an important victory today, running out 2-0 winners against Empoli thanks to goals from Fonseca and Casadei. The Nerazzurri were clinical and managed to find the net in the closing stages of each half. Particularly noteworthy was William Rovida’s performance, with the Inter goalkeeper saving a spot-kick and making several decisive stops. Thanks to this win, the Nerazzurri’s U19s have moved up to second place in the league ahead of the match between fellow high-flyers Sampdoria and Roma.

The first big chance of the game fell to the hosts: in the 14th minute, Degli Innocentri broke free and shot, with his effort coming off the post. With 31 minutes on the clock, Empoli had an opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot, but Rovida did extremely well to keep out Lipari’s spot-kick. This was William’s second penalty save in the space of a week after denying Juventus’ Sekulov last time out. The Nerazzurri shot-stopper once again intervened a few minutes later following an attempt from the lively Lipari. With the half coming to a close, Casadei called Pratelli into action, while Fonseca then produced an excellent first-time finish following Squizzato’s assist. The opening 45 minutes ended with a 1-0 scoreline in favour of Inter.

The Nerazzurri were the first to threaten after the restart: Satriano got between the two central defenders, but Pratelli managed to get in the way of his left-footed strike. With 70 minutes on the clock, there was a scare for Inter as Degli Innocenti volleyed narrowly over. Then, ten minutes before the end, Klimavicius failed to convert a header from close range. In the 85th minute, Inter hit the woodwork twice in quick succession, first through Casadei’s headed effort and then through Bonfanti on the rebound. At the other end, Rovida once again came up strong to stop Empoli from equalising late on. Finally, Casadei rose high to seal a 2-0 Nerazzurri success.
