The defender tells Inter TV that continuing to wear the Nerazzurri colours is a “source of pride”

APPIANO GENTILE – Danilo D'Ambrosio spoke to Inter TV following the first few days of training in Appiano Gentile in preparation for the new season, which will be his ninth with the Nerazzurri.

“We've had two seasons without a break, so it was important to recharge our batteries with some time off. The first few days of pre-season have been positive; we're still missing a lot of players but the group is eager,” he said.

D'Ambrosio added: “I’d like to take the chance to congratulate ‘Lauti’ [Lautaro Martinez] for the well-deserved win in the Copa America and to wish ‘Nico’ [Nicolo Barella] and ‘Basto’ [Alessandro Bastoni] the best of luck in tonight’s final against England.”

Meanwhile, with new coach Simone Inzaghi to lead Inter into the new campaign, the defender said: “The approach has been positive. All the staff are very capable and want to do a good job, to honour Inter’s history. From the very start we’ve been right on it.”

Finally, as regards the contract extension signed with the club in recent weeks, D’Ambrosio commented: “Carrying on wearing these colours is a source of pride. I'm now in my ninth season with Inter, but every time I take to the field I try to do my best to prove that I deserve to wear this shirt.

“The fact my contract has been renewed means I’ve done good work and deserved it. However, the past doesn't matter now – we want to prove ourselves in the league, compete in the Champions League and go far in the Coppa Italia.”
