The defender was speaking after the friendly win over Parma

PARMA – After his return to the squad at the start of the week, following his successful Euro 2020 campaign with Italy, Alessandro Bastoni enjoyed his first pre-season outing with Inter. He shared his thoughts on the friendly victory over Parma with Inter TV.

It was a good test against Parma.

We’ve only joined up with the group recently – we’ve got a new manager and we need to grasp his system. We’re ready to put our trust in him so we can perform well this year.

How important are these matches just a few days before the league season starts?

These friendly run-outs are key because we joined up with the squad only recently, so we’ve not got that much time to prepare for a league campaign in which we want to do well. We have a league title to defend and we will try to do that in every possible way.

What were your impressions out on the pitch?

It felt good to be out there. When you win a European Championship, you return to the pitch with a much greater desire to win and do well, so I'm very happy to have rejoined my teammates and I hope to have a great year.

The Scudetto, the Euros, and then you're going to become a father for the first time, it's been quite a summer...

It's a fantastic year. Fortunately, I've also found that stability off the pitch that allows me to focus solely on my football, so I'm happy both with the club and in my private life.
