Barella started the goalless draw, while Argentina’s clash with Brazil was suspended

European champions Italy picked up a second draw in four days, after leaving Basel with a point in the 2022 World Cup qualifier against Switzerland. The stalemate at St. Jakob-Park was the Azzurri’s 36th game unbeaten and leaves Roberto Mancini’s side with a record of three wins and two draws from five matches.

Having kicked off the qualifying campaign with a trio of 2-0 victories over Northern Ireland, Bulgaria and Lithuania, Italy now sit on 11 points in group C after draws with Bulgaria (1-1) and Switzerland (0-0).

Nicolo Barella started the game and was eventually replaced by Matteo Pessina in the 90th minute. Alessandro Bastoni was an unused substitute.

Health authorities brought the World Cup qualifier between Brazil and Argentina to a halt after just seven minutes, with the game eventually being suspended.
