Our Dutch centre-back reflects on a frustrating evening: "We could have done better but credit to them too"

KYIV - Stefan de Vrij was understandably disappointed after Inter were held to another goalless draw by Shakhtar Donetsk – perhaps more than most as he was denied what would have been a near-certain winner by an outstanding Andriy Pyatov save just minutes from the end.

“It was a tough match and we must give credit to Shakhtar because they kept the ball well even when we harried them,” the defender commented after the Champions League Matchday 2 clash.

“We could have done better. We're disappointed with the result because we wanted to win but if we look at the way the game went a draw is probably fair.

“We have to sit down and properly analyse what happened so that we can improve for our coming games.

"It could have gone either way today. I don't know how Pyatov kept my header out! It's such a shame because we really wanted to win.

“Now of course our next two Champions League games are going to be crucial.”
