We break down the juiciest numbers from the start of the season


MILAN – Heading into the second international break of the campaign, the Nerazzurri stand unbeaten on 17 points from seven league games, with a return of five wins and two draws.

Simone Inzaghi’s side have scored 22 goals, making Inter the most prolific goalscorers, with no fewer than 11 different players getting on the scoresheet already, which is the highest number in the division. A total of 43 shots on goal and a pass completion percentage of 84 also make for pleasant reading

Edin Dzeko leads the way in the goalscoring charts outright for Inter and alongside Ciro Immobile in Serie A. Lautaro Martinez lies in second place with five goals to his name. With 11 goals between them, Dzeko (six) and Lautaro (five) have been the most prolific duo in the opening stages of the season.

Nicolo Barella leads the way in the assist charts, with five to his name, which is more than anyone else in Serie A, while his tally is only bettered by Paul Pogba and Karim Benzema (seven each) among players in Europe’s top five leagues.

During the start of the season, Inter have been able to make game-changing substitutions time after time, with six goals coming from players who started the match on the bench: Arturo Vidal on the opening day against Genoa, Joaquin Correa’s brace against Verona, Dzeko’s double against Bologna and the Bosnian’s equaliser last time out against Sassuolo to kick-start the team’s comeback.

Headed goals have also been flooding in, with an average of one per game at present. The seven headers in as many fixtures have been scored by Dzeko (three), Milan Skriniar (two), Lautaro (one) and Correa (one).
