Calhanoglu, Brozovic, Perisic, Skriniar, de Vrij and Dumfries were involved in World Cup qualifiers

Six Nerazzurri players were involved in three different World Cup qualifiers this evening for their respective national teams. While Stefan de Vrij and Denzel Dumfries’s the Netherlands made light work of beating Gibraltar, Marcelo Brozovic and Ivan Perisic’s Croatia against Milan Skriniar’s Slokavia was a much closer-fought encounter. Hakan Calhanoglu's Turkey were victorious in their match.

Calhanoglu’s Turkey picked up a last-gasp win over Latvia in Riga. With the scores level at 1-1 deep into injury time, Burak Yilmaz won it for the Turkish from a spot kick. Calhanoglu featured for his country in the number 10 role, lasting the full 90 minutes.

Dumfries and de Vrij featured in the same back four who started against Gibraltar and also played the full 90 minutes in what was a comfortable 6-0 win for the Dutch in Rotterdam. Dumfries also got on the scoresheet, nodding home to make it 4-0. The Oranje remain at the top of Group G ahead of Norway and Turkey.

Three Inter players starred in what was a thrilling clash in the Croatian city of Osijek despite the adverse weather conditions. Brozovic and Perisic were in action for the hosts while Skriniar featured for the visitors. The match ended all-square at 2-2, with Skriniar and his fellow defenders holding firm and successfully withstanding the Croatian onslaught spearheaded by his clubmates Brozovic and Peresic. Russia now top Group H following their win, ahead of Croatia and Slovakia.
